Zoom Video Conferencing for Students

Zoom is a secure video conferencing platform that allows participants to collaborate, share screens, and conduct group activities from nearly any device. UFV Zoom accounts allow you to host meetings or simply participate by joining a previously scheduled Zoom meeting. People attending your meeting as a participant will not require an account or license to join. Students can download and install Zoom on their computers or mobile phones.

Due to security and privacy concerns, the following Zoom options are not available for use by students:

  • Meeting Recordings – Both local and cloud recording of Zoom meetings are not available.
  • File transfer - Hosts and participants can send files through the in-meeting chat
  • Live Streaming - Allow live streaming meetings

 

Section 1 - Login to Zoom using a Web Browser

Step 1: Visit https://ufv-ca.zoom.us/

Step 2: Click on 'Sign in'

Step 3: Log in with your credentials

  • Username: UFV student account (9-digit number)
  • Password: myUFV Login Password

You should now be able to successfully log in to Zoom. If you receive an error message, please proceed to section 4 of this article.

 

Section 2 - Login to Zoom Desktop Application

Step 1. For personal devices, the Zoom application can be installed here.

Step 2. On Windows, click the 'Start' icon. Then type 'Zoom' in the search bar and then click Open.

 On Mac, use the 'Search' icon on the top right to find and open Zoom.  

Step 3. Once you open Zoom, Click on Sign-In with SSO.

Step 4: Put ufv-ca as a domain name

Step 5: Log in with your credentials as below:

  • Username: Student ID (9-digit number)
  • Password: myUFV Login Password

If you receive an error message, please proceed to section 4 of this article.

Step 6: Click on 'Open Zoom Meetings'. This will open the desktop app.

You are now successfully logged in. 

 

 

Section 3 - Login to Zoom using a Phone

    1.  Open/install Zoom Cloud meetings app on your phone ( NOTE: There are two zoom apps - You would need the one with cloud meetings)
    
    2.  Navigate at the bottom to "Sign In With SSO".


    
  

   3.  Enter the company's domain: ufv-ca (Note - Zoom.us is already pre-filled)
    
   4.  Sign in on the webpage with your credentials as below:

  • Username: Student ID (9-digit number)
  • Password: myUFV Login Password

If you receive an error message, please proceed to section 4 of this article.

   5.  Allow all notifications for the app.

 

Section 4 - Received an error when signing in

If you receive the below error when signing in, please follow the steps listed below:

 

1. Close all the browser windows with zoom error messages.

2. Open a new browser window and go to this link: https://ufvfim.ufv.ca/adfs/ls/?wa=wsignout1.0

3. Close the sign-out page.

4. If you are using the Zoom Desktop Application:

  • Open the Zoom application and again try steps 3, 4 for Sign in with SSO.

    If you are using Zoom in a Web Browser:

5. You should now see a UFV login window.

6. Now, ensure that you login with your network username and password as below:

  • Username: Student ID (9 digit number)
  • Password: myUFV Login Password
