How to mark a web site as trusted in UBlock

What is uBlock Origin?

uBlock is a popular ad blocker for web browsers that blocks unwanted ads, trackers, and malware from loading on web pages. Edge, Chrome, and Firefox browsers on UFV laptop and desktop computers come with uBlock installed.

The uBlock page, when it blocks a website, includes the URL (website) that was blocked and the reason it was blocked: advertisement, tracking, malware. The block page looks like this:

Benefits of ad blocking

  • Helps to protect your privacy: by preventing third-party advertisers and trackers from collecting your personal information and online activity.
  • Enhances security: by blocking malicious ads and scripts that can infect your computer with malware.

If you encounter a blocked website

From the uBlock block page, you have two options:

Go back: go back to the last page

Proceed: proceed to the blocked page (may be unsafe)

If you are unsure if the site is safe, or you have other issues proceeding, please reach out to the IT Service Desk.

Turn off uBlock for a website

If you find a website is having issues when uBlock is enabled, and you may turn it off for that website, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the uBlock Origin icon  in your browser’s menu. If you don’t see it, you may need to reveal your full extension list:
  • in Edge by clicking Settings and more > Extensions

  • in Chrome by clicking the three-dot menu > Extensions
  1. Click the “power” button in the uBlock menu to whitelist the current web site as shown in image below.
  2. Reload the page (In chrome/firefox, you may have to click "Proceed" or reopen the browser) and you should be able to view the content.
