M365 for Students

Overview

Beginning May 2, 2021, eligible UFV students qualify for a free Microsoft 365 (M365) account.  M365 for Students will provide a robust set of tools to our students, enhance remote learning experiences, and create more collaborative opportunities.  The M365 for Students account will provide access to popular Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher (PC download only), and Access (PC download only).  The M365 for Students account will also provide access to services for collaboration and file storage: MS Teams and OneDrive.

Email:  UFV provides email services to students through Exchange Online (a cloud-based service that is part of M365). Exchange Online has replaced the previous student email platform, Zimbra. Student email is accessible by using the Outlook application, Outlook on the Web, and through the myUFV portal.

‌‌

MS Teams is a collaboration tool that supports collaboration spaces, online meetings, audio, video, and file sharing.

‌‌

OneDrive is a cloud based storage system that can be used to store files.  Some students that are currently using the US version of OneDrive will need to move their documents to an alternate platform (USB drive, personal computer etc.) before April 30th after which your new M365 account will be enabled.  Your new M365 account will store all your files in Canada.

Microsoft's Online Productivity Suite is a collection of office-related applications that are used to create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, and more.  Your M365 account gives you access to Microsoft applications such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
