UFV uses Explorance Blue (also known as Blue) to conduct course evaluations.
After surveys are completed, Blue generates Reports based on the results of the survey.
This KB article gives faculty details on what each Report entails, how to access Reports, and how to export them.
Report Release Timing
Reports are released following the Dean’s review period and after final grades are submitted.

FAQ about Blue
Q. What is the Reliability Assessment Score (RAS) in course evaluations?
A: The Reliability Assessment Score (RAS) helps you understand how dependable your course evaluation results are, based on the number of student responses received.
When fewer students respond, the results may not represent the entire class and can be less reliable.
RAS is calculated using the error estimation bounds described in Elementary Survey Sampling by Richard L. Scheaffer et al.
Your report will display a simple reliability label: Good, Sufficient, or Insufficient.
Reliability Labels Explained
Good
Enough students responded to interpret results with strong confidence.
Sufficient
Results can be interpreted, but use caution.
Insufficient
Too few responses to confidently reflect the whole class.
Tip: The most effective way to improve response rates is to encourage students during class and set aside a few minutes for completion.
Q. What does “bound of error estimate” mean in course evaluations?
A: The bound of error estimate measures the level of uncertainty in your evaluation results because not all students responded.
- When many students respond: You can be highly confident that the average scores represent the entire class.
- When few students respond: Results may reflect only a small subset of students, making them less reliable.
This estimate is used to calculate the Reliability Assessment Score (RAS), which provides a quick indicator of how dependable your results are.
Reliability Labels Explained
- Good
Enough responses to interpret results with strong confidence.
- Sufficient
Results can be interpreted, but use caution.
- Insufficient
Too few responses to confidently reflect the whole class.
Tip: If your results are marked Insufficient, consider reminding students earlier in the evaluation period or setting aside time in class for completion. Instructor encouragement has the greatest impact on response rates.
Q: Why can’t I see my current term course evaluation reports yet?
A: Reports are not available immediately after surveys close. They are released only after:
1. Final grades for the term have been submitted, and
2. The Dean’s three-week review period is complete.
If no students responded for a course, the system (Blue) will not generate a report.
Still can’t see a report you believe should be available?
Email HR Information Systems & Analytics for assistance.
Q: Can I see my course evaluation results before my Dean sees them?
A: No. Results are first released to Deans and Academic Leadership for a quality review period.
After this review is complete, reports are made available to individual faculty members.
Q: Can I dispute or request removal of a student comment?
A. If you have concerns about a specific student comment, please contact your Dean’s Office.
HR does not edit or remove student comments in the Blue system.
