CIRA Canadian Shield

Overview

Developed by the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA), Canadian Shield is a free DNS security service that blocks access to malicious websites, phishing scams, and other online threats before they can do harm. It’s privacy-focused and built specifically for Canadians.

Why Use It?

• Easy to set up on phones, laptops, and home Wi-Fi
• No upfront cost, no subscription, no ads, no data selling. 
• Blocks harmful websites automatically, using high confidence threat information shared by the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (CCCS)
• Helps prevent malware from infecting your devices and blocks access to known phishing scams

How to Get Started

You can use Canadian Shield in three ways:

• Browser Extension – ideal for laptops and desktops, available for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge
• Mobile App – download for iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play)
• Home Network Setup – Configure your home router to protect all devices on your Wi-Fi
  • If you set-up CIRA Canadian Shield on your router/network, then all devices on that network are protected and you will not need to set-up individual devices.
