By default, the upgrade process should preserve your files. However, it is recommended to back up any important files and data before Windows 11 is pushed to your workstations. Refer to the article Back Up your Files and Data to back up your folders like Documents, Pictures, and Desktop.
Upgrading to Windows 11 offers a seamless experience with minimal interaction required. The process kicks off with the scheduling of the update. Once your workstation is designated for an upgrade, a prompt will be issued within a two-week period, allowing you to schedule the update.
You have the flexibility to choose a suitable time by selecting either "Pick a time" or "Schedule the restart." The flexibility to delay the restart schedule for up to 7 days is provided, ensuring that you can choose a convenient time for the upgrade.
For those seeking a more immediate approach, selecting "Restart now" prompts the system to restart and initiates the upgrade process. It's worth noting that this process may take up to an hour to complete.
In the event that the prompt is ignored, the system will automatically initiate the upgrade during the next startup.
If you miss the initial prompt, please look for the following notifications to schedule or upgrade:
Selecting the notification seen below will open the Windows update page, here you will be able to schedule a date and time for the restart.
