Internet of Things (IoT) Wireless Registration

Overview

Internet of Things (IoT) devices must be registered in order to connect to the UFV wireless network (i.e., not eduroam). Use this service to request wireless registration of your IoT device.

IMPORTANT: Some IoT devices may not be compatible with UFV wireless standards. Please consult with the Network Services team prior to the purchase of your device to ensure compatibility.

Examples of IoT devices include:

  • Air quality monitors
  • Sensors
  • Instructional equipment
  • Vendor appliances
  • Streaming devices (e.g., Roku)
  • Health Sciences devices

NOTE: To complete this request, you’ll need to provide your device’s MAC address. To avoid delays in onboarding, you must provide the device’s MAC address at the time of submitting your request.

A MAC address (Media Access Control address) is a unique identifier assigned to your device’s network interface. It is a 12-character combination of letters and numbers, typically displayed in pairs separated by colons or hyphens. For example:

  • 2C:54:91:88:C9:E3
  • 2C-54-91-88-C9-E3

Where to find your MAC address
You can usually locate your MAC address in one of the following places:

  • System or device settings
    • Look under network, Wi-Fi, or hardware information.
  • Network settings
    • Often labeled as “MAC address,” “Physical Address,” or “Hardware ID.”
  • Physical device label
    • Check the bottom or back of your device.
  • Original packaging
    • It may be printed on the box your device came in.

Tip: Manufacturers may use different terms for the MAC address, such as Physical Address or Hardware ID, so keep an eye out for those names.
Once you find it, enter the MAC address exactly as shown and submit a photo of the MAC address.

  • Device type
  • Device make and model
  • Device purpose
  • Connection frequency
  • MAC address
  • Number of devices to connect
  • Vendor name and website (if applicable)
  • Device support information (link or attachment)
  • Device location
  • Device access credentials
