Microsoft 365: Quick start guide for UFV employees

The M365 productivity suite and collaboration tools include such apps as Exchange Online, OneDrive, MS Teams, Online Productivity Suite, MS Planner, and SharePoint.

The Microsoft Office 365 Education Agreement allows UFV employees to have free access to Microsoft 365 (M365) when they sign in using their @ufv.ca email address.

Access via web or personal device

Access the following M365 Suite apps through the MS Office web portal:

  • Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, MSPlanner, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

These MS apps must be download first to your personal device for access:

  • OneNote, Access, and Publisher

Download M365 to a personal device

  1. Go to Office web portal and sign in using the your UFV credentials:
  • Username: UFV employee email address (e.g. john.doe@ufv.ca)
  • Password: UFV email password
  1. On UFV Microsoft account home page, click Install Office.
  2. Choose Office 365 apps if you need to install all applications.

  1. Once file download completes, run the file and follow on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  2. For more information about installation, refer to Microsoft Support documentation.

Log into M365 Applications

1. Log into M365 applications in the Office web portal using:

  • Username: UFV employee email address (e.g. john.doe@ufv.ca)
  • Password: UFV email password

  2. Log into to M365 applications downloaded onto your personal device.

M365 Training Resources

This table provides a list of useful information and training resources on M365 apps available for UFV Employees. 

M365 for Employees provides a more robust set of tools, enhancing their working experiences and creating more collaborative opportunities.

Microsoft Adoption provides employees and users with the necessary skills, training, and resources to effectively utilize and implement Microsoft products and services for their work and daily activities within an organization.

UFV provides email services to employees through Exchange Online (a cloud-based service that is part of M365). Employees can setup their UFV email on the Outlook application or use Outlook Web Portal to access email.

Microsoft SharePoint is used to create websites. You can use it as a secure place to store, organize, share, and access information from any device.

MS Planner provides a collective space for team members to create plans, organize and assign tasks to different users, and check updates on progress through dashboards.

MS Teams is a collaboration tool that supports collaboration spaces, online meetings, audio, video, and file sharing.

All UFV Employees can also create teams in the MS Teams application. Information on how to create and manage teams is linked below:

OneDrive is Microsoft’s cloud-based file storage service. You can use it to store your files and share them with others; all files stored in OneDrive are private unless you decide to share them. When you use the applications in Microsoft’s Online Productivity Suite (see below), you can save your files in OneDrive, making your work accessible from anywhere and on all your devices.
