Storage clean up on Windows 10

To perform storage cleanup on a Windows 10 computer you can follow these steps:

  1. View Available Storage:
    • Press the Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
    • Click on This PC on the left pane, you'll see the OS(C:) driveCurrent drive utilization
  2. Disk Cleanup Utility:
    • Press the Windows key + S to open the search bar.
    • Type Disk Cleanup and select the Disk Cleanup app from the search results. Run Disk Cleanup
    • Disk Cleanup will calculate how much space you can free up.
    • Check all the boxes next to the types of files. These may look like below: Disk Cleanup
    • Scroll down and check the remaining boxes. Disk Cleanup
    • Click OK to start the cleanup process.
  3. Remove Unnecessary Applications:
    • Press Windows key + I to open SettingsWindows settings
    • Go to Apps.
    • Click on Apps & features. Apps & features list
    • Review the list of installed applications. (You can also sort the list by size).
    • Select any applications you no longer need and click UninstallUninstall
  4. Empty Recycle Bin:
    • Right-click on the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop.
    • Select Empty Recycle Bin.
  5. Check Downloads Folder and Desktop:
    • Remove any unnecessary files from your Downloads folder and desktop.
