Window 10 Add a Language

Adding Language features is individual user-specific and required to be added by the logged-in user.

Use the Add a Language feature to download and install another language for Windows 10 so you can view menus, dialog boxes, and supported apps and websites in that language. To do this:

  1. Select the Start button, and then select Settings > Time & Language > Language.
  2. Under Preferred languages, select Add a language.
Settings window with Language tab opened
  3. Under Choose a language to install, select or type the name of the language that you want to download and install, and then select Next.
  4. Under Install language features, accept the default settings in the language that you selected to download, and then select Install.

How to use the Language Feature

  1. Open a text document to test it in.
  2. In system tray click on ENG and select the language, in this example, Japanese. The ENG will change to the language you selected. This can also be done by holding the Windows key and tapping the space bar one or more times to change the language.
  3. Open your document.
  4. Click on the A to change it to a Japanese symbol. Japanese types correctly.
  5. Click on the language icon to change back to A for English typing.
  6. To modify advanced settings, click on the preferred language and choose options. To un-install choose remove.
