Ally is tool in Brightspace that allows students to download course content in alternate formats to suit their learning preferences, in addition to the original course format provided by your instructor.
This helps students to engage with their course content in a way that suits their own accessibility needs.
Depending on the type of content, students may have access to the following formats:
- Mobile-friendly HTML
- Audio (mp3)
- ePub
- Electronic Braille
- Beeline Reader
- OCRd PDF
- Tagged PDF
- Microsoft Immersive Reader
- Translated versions
How to access alternative course formats
1. Log into your UFV online course at brightspace.ufv.ca.
2. Navigate to your course in Brightspace.
3. Click on Content and select a page to view.

4. If an alternative format is available for that content, the Ally Alternative formats icon will be visible in the menu above the content.
The icon resembles the upper case letter A with a downward pointing arrow to symbolize download.
Click the Alternative formats icon to view your options.

5. Choose an alternative format from the available list by clicking on its radio button . In this example, Audio is chosen.

6. Click Download.
Note: Depending on the type of format chosen it will either download to your device or open in Brightspace.

7. If you see a message saying the Alternative Formats are disabled, check with your instructor as they may have turned this off for this individual content item within your course.
