The Brightspace Media Library is a simple tool recommended for creating short audio or video recordings (under 30 minutes) that are intended for use in a single course.
Students can record:
- Video using your webcam, screen, or both
- Audio only, if preferred
While the recording options are limited, the tool is easy to use and works well for quick, course-specific content.
1. Login to Brightspace
Go to brightspace.ufv.ca/
2. Find the Media Library
In the green navigation menu either:
Click the Admin tools (gear icon ) by your profile name in the top right corner, then select Media Library; or
Click Kaltura MyMedia, then select Brightspace Media Library

3. Check if videos exist
If you already created videos or audio recordings using Brightspace Media Library, you will see them appear here.
4. Create a new video or audio recording
Click the Add Assets blue button.

Click Record Video or Record Audio.
Note: If you already created a video on your own device, you can upload it to Brightspace Media Library by dragging and dropping it in the Drop Files box, or by selecting Click to browse and finding your video.

Note: You may have to click Allow to allow permission for the webcam and microphone to be used by Brightspace.
5. Choose to record using webcam, screen, or both
To use the webcam, turn on the Camera toggle.
To record your screen, click Share Screen, select a window, and click Allow.
Note: If recording both, the webcam will appear in the bottom-right corner and cannot be moved—this is a limitation compared to Kaltura MyMedia.
To change your camera or microphone, click Change Inputs.

6. Start to record
When ready, click Start Recording:
To pause the recording, click Pause Recording.
To resume the recording, click Resume Recording.

7. Stop recording
Click Finish Recording to stop the recording.
Click Restart to redo the recording completely.

8. Describe your video
Add a Title to your recording (be specific so you can easily find it in your media gallery), and a Description if needed.
You can also generate captions by:
Clicking Caption Settings, checking the box in front of Generate Captions, then choosing Language and clicking Done.
Click Save, then Close.

Your video is now saved in your Media Library in Brightspace.
It may take a few minutes to upload and process depending on the size of your video.
Click the video to preview it.
These recordings can then be embeded easily in Brightspace content (for instructors only), and into text submission assignments or discussions (for both students or instructors).

9. Additional options
There are a few more options you can access if you click on the Actions ellipsis (3 dots).
You can preview the video, download it to your computer, edit the video content and captions, rename the video, edit the description of the video, or delete the video.

10. Sort and filter your recordings
To select one, several or all videos and click Delete Selected to delete the selected recordings.
