Privileges Application

For security reasons, employees at UFV do not have administrative privileges on UFV managed devices. Employees with a managed Mac can temporarily elevate their account to admin using the Privileges app that is installed during setup.

Request Privileges

To request admin privileges on your Mac, follow the below steps:

1. Locate and open the Privileges app
   

2. Select the reason you require admin privileges
   

3. Click on the Request Privileges button
   

4. When prompted, enter your password and click OK
   

5. Admin privileges will be granted to your account for 15 minutes, if you look at the Privileges app you will see the countdown
   

6. If you complete your install prior to the countdown running out, you can revert your privileges by opening the application again and clicking on Revert Privileges
   

Renew Privileges

On occasion, 15 minutes may not be enough time to complete your install. If this is the case, you can renew your privileges before the time runs out. You will first need to enable the renewal option, once it has been enabled you will be able to renew anytime you use the privileges app.

Enable Renewal Option

By default this option is not enabled in the app, to enable privilege renewal follow the below steps. They can be completed before you have requested admin privileges, or while you have them.

1. Open the Privileges app and click on Settings...
   

2. Go to the Privileges tab

3. Check the box beside Allow expiring administrator privileges to be renewed
   

4. The renewal option is now enabled

Renew Active Privileges

To renew your active admin privileges do the following:

1. Click on the Privileges padlock icon, or open the Privileges app

2. Hold the Option key on your keyboard and the option will switch from revert privileges to renew privilege

3. Click on Renew Privileges
   

4. Your countdown has been reset to 15 minutes
