What is MDM?
Mobile Device Purchase / Upgrade
UFV employees may be eligible to request a new UFV-issued mobile device or an upgrade to a current UFV-issued mobile device. An authorized requestor for the department can complete a Mobile Device Purchase / Upgrade request to get started.
UFV Standard Data Plan
New UFV mobile accounts are created under our standard 3 year-term usage plan. The existing plan remains if an employee assumes a previous employee's account. UFV employees automatically receive the basic plan with Rogers Mobility, which includes unlimited Canada-wide Talk & Text and 5GB of monthly data.
UFV Standard Rogers Data Plan Includes:
- Unlimited Canada-wide Long Distance
- Unlimited Canada-wide Text
- Call Display
- Voicemail
- 5GB of data per month
- $44.80 / per month
Mobile Back Up & Restore
IT Services will deliver and assist in the basic setup of the mobile device. This includes installing SIM cards, UFV email setup, and guidance on transferring data from old phones.
IT Services cannot assist with transferring personal data such as personal photos, applications, and personal contacts to a UFV-issued mobile.
If you plan to restore your new mobile with content and contacts from your previous mobile, complete the following steps:
- Back up your Mobile
- Apple Devices: Back up your device to iCloud* (recommended)
- Android Devices: Back up your device using Google and backup your photos using Google Photos
- Restore content and contacts to your New Mobile
- Apple Devices: Restore all content from iCloud Backup
- Android Devices: Backup & Restore with Google Drive
- Have your personal Google ID or Apple ID password ready to complete your backup and restore your personal data to your new mobile
- Reset your Mobile Device
- Apple Devices: Erase iPhone
- Android Devices: Reset your Android Device
- Return your Old Mobile Device to the IT Service Desk (G131)
Roaming
UFV employees travelling outside of Canada for business will incur roaming expenses when using a UFV-issued mobile. If the roaming expense is for a personal trip, you may be required to reimburse the UFV for these overages.
To learn more about roaming plans available for UFV-issued mobile devices, see the Rogers Mobile Roaming article.
Mobile Device Management
What is MDM?
Mobile Device Management (MDM) is a cellular industry standard administration tool that allows organizations manage applications and accounts on mobile devices used by their employees. This ensures that employees are productive and have the accounts and tools they need to effectively use their mobile device to fulfill job responsibilities.
MDM is also an important security tool that helps safeguard personal and confidential data on mobile devices used by UFV and helps limit the liabilities UFV could face by permitting employees to use their device for work and personal purposes.
MDM Features
- Remote lock and wipe: If the device is lost or stolen, UFV can lock the device and/or delete data.
Please note: After 10 consecutive failed passcode attempts an iPhone will erase all information, media, and personal settings
- Remote Account Management: Allows UFV to remotely configure accounts on Android and iOS devices.
- Remote Restrictions: Allows administrators to lock device settings to UFV standards, or remove user access to selected device settings.
- Application Management: Allows UFV you to push apps to managed devices, eliminating the need for a user to “bring you the device” to add an app or to make a change.
MDM does not:
- Keep record of financial information
- Keep a record of browsing history
- Have access to files, pictures, videos and contact information on your device
- Track your location or phone usage and activities
- Have any access whatsoever to your Google, Apple or other personal accounts
If you require assistance with your UFV mobile device, please contact the IT Service Desk.
