This knowledge base article is intended for faculty and staff who have recently been migrated from the Mitel phone system to Microsoft Teams Phone, including users assigned a Yealink Teams-certified desk phone.
Getting Started
Dial Pad Not Appearing in Teams
After your Teams Phone service has been enabled, you may notice that the Dial Pad does not immediately appear in your Windows Teams application.
If this occurs:
- Completely exit Microsoft Teams.
- Reopen the application.
If the dial pad still does not appear:
- Restart your computer.
- Launch Teams again.
The dial pad should become available once the Teams Phone license is fully recognized by the application.
Voicemail Setup
Voicemail settings are managed directly within the Microsoft Teams application.
You can use Teams to:
- Record or change your voicemail greeting
- Configure out-of-office greetings
- Enable or disable voicemail options
- Manage voicemail preferences

Teams Voicemail Setup KB Article
Extension Dialing Changes
External Callers
Your previous Mitel extension will continue to be reachable by external callers after the migration.
No action is required on your part.
Internal UFV Calls
When placing calls to other UFV employees using Teams Phone:
- Search for the person by name in the Teams dial pad or search bar.
- Avoid dialing internal extension numbers whenever possible.
Searching by name provides the most accurate and reliable way to contact colleagues in Teams.
Direct Phone Numbers (DID)
If you were previously assigned a direct phone number (DID), that number will continue to work after the migration.
External callers can continue to contact you directly without going through the UFV switchboard or automated phone tree.
Front Desk and Call Queue Members
If you are a member of a front desk, reception, or departmental call queue and will be away from work (vacation, leave, or extended absence), notify your supervisor before leaving.
This is especially important if you have Teams installed on:
- Your UFV laptop
- Your UFV desktop
- Your smartphone
If your account remains in the call queue, queue calls may continue to be routed to your devices even while you are away.
Your supervisor or Call Queue Manager should remove you from the call queue membership during your absence.

- The phone will synchronize with your Teams account.

Some front desk or reception phones are configured as shared devices and remain permanently signed in.
For these phones:
- No user sign-in is required.
- Multiple staff members can use the phone during rotating shifts.
π For sign-in instructions, refer to:
Yealink Teams Phone Sign-In KB Article

Troubleshooting Teams Phone Issues
If you are not receiving incoming call notifications or are unable to place external calls, use the web version of Microsoft Teams to determine whether the issue is related to your Teams Phone service or the desktop application.
Test Using Teams Web
- Open a web browser.
- Navigate to: https://teams.microsoft.com/v2/
- Sign in using your UFV account.
- Test the following:
- Receiving incoming calls
- Making internal calls
- Making external calls
- Accessing the dial pad
Results

This indicates that your Teams Phone service is working properly and that the issue is likely with the installed Windows Teams application.
Please submit an IT Service Desk ticket requesting a clean reinstallation of Microsoft Teams.
If Teams Phone does not work in the web version:
The issue may be related to your Teams Phone configuration, licensing, or account provisioning. Please submit an IT Service Desk ticket for further investigation.
