Overview
Students taking courses at another institution while completing a credential at University of the Fraser Valley may require split enrolment approval for StudentAid BC funding purposes.
Split enrolment allows eligible students enrolled in a UFV program to take courses at another recognized institution, and have those credits count towards StudentAid BC funding. These requests are assessed in accordance with current StudentAid BC policy and UFV requirements.
Eligibility
You may submit this request if:
- University of the Fraser Valley is your home institution (you will receive your credential from UFV).
- You are registered in at least one UFV course during the funded term.
- You are taking or planning to take courses at another recognized post-secondary institution.
- The course(s) are an essential element of your UFV program and will count toward your credential.
- You require the course(s) to count toward your full-time course load for StudentAid BC funding eligibility.
- To be eligible, open learning courses must be completed within your approved UFV study dates (September–December, January–April, or May–August). Courses extending beyond this period will not be considered.
Note: Students and courses must meet specific criteria to be eligible for split enrolment consideration. Not all programs or courses will qualify.
If you are unsure whether your courses will transfer toward your UFV credential, please consult with an Academic Advisor prior to submitting this request.
How to apply?
To request split enrolment consideration:
- Request a Letter of Permission from the Office of the Registrar
- A Letter of Permission confirms that the course is transferable to UFV, indicates the number of transfer credits, and verifies that the course is required to complete your UFV program.
- Complete the Split Enrolment Form
- Read and then complete part 1 of the fillable PDF split enrolment form.
- Submit the form to the other institution so they can complete the required section.
- Complete and submit this request form.
You will be required to:
- Provide your student information.
- Provide details of the other institution and course(s).
- Upload the letter of permission
- Upload completed split enrolment form verifying enrolment at the other institution.
- Acknowledge funding-related requirements, responsibilities and timelines.
- Submit any required supporting documentation.
Depending on the institution and study arrangement, additional documentation may be required.
- Submit proof of final grades
- You must submit a transcript or proof of final grade(s) from the other institution within 30 days of the funded term ending.
- UFV Financial Aid and Awards may request interim grades or proof of academic progress at any time in the study period.
Note: If your student loan is not through StudentAid BC, please contact UFV Financial Aid and Awards prior to submitting this request. This ensures we can determine whether split enrolment is available under your funding provider's policies.
What happens next?
Once your request is submitted:
- UFV Financial Aid and Awards will review your documentation and eligibility.
- Staff may contact you if additional information is required.
- Your split enrolment status will be assessed in accordance with current StudentAid BC policy.
- You may be required to submit additional documentation or proof of completion during or after the study period ends.
Note: Failure to submit final transcripts or proof of completion will result in UFV notifying the appropriate provincial authority that you were unsuccessful or withdrew from studies during your split enrolment term. This may negatively impact future student loan funding and/or eligibility for in-study non-repayment status.
All split enrolment requests are assessed at the discretion of UFV.
