Employee email receiving "Undeliverable: external forwarding is disabled"

Body

Employees who forward email from their @ufv.ca mailbox to a personal email address might receive this bounce back:

"A custom mail flow rule created by an admin at ufv.ca has blocked your message.
External forwarding is disabled. To fix this error, remove the forwarding rule from your UFV account."

Fix

We do not recommend relying on automatically forwarding emails to a personal email address. Instead, we recommend you access your UFV mail in your UFV mailbox. You can even try adding your UFV mailbox to your favourite email app.

If you must forward email, use either of these methods:

Why does this occur?

This problem occurs if you receive emails from a student sender, and have a mail rule with the condition to "redirect" these emails to a personal email.

Emails that are redirected will be treated as sent from the original sender (that is, it is "from" the student mailbox). Emails that are forwarded are treated as from the mailbox that did the forwarding (that is, it is "from" your employee mailbox). If a student sends you an email, and you have a rule that redirects that email, it will appear as automatically forwarded externally 'from' the student. UFV does not allow external forwarding from student mailboxes, and the redirect rule treats the email as 'from' the student, so this redirected email is blocked.
