This guide will help you complete your StudentAid BC part-time application using the Student Information Management System (SIMS).
Getting Started
- Go to the StudentAid BC website.
- Log in using your BC Services Card app.
- Create your student profile by entering your SIN, address, and any other information requested.
- Once submitted, your information will be validated with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). This process may take up to 72 hours.
- Once validation is complete, log in to your StudentAid BC account and select “Apply for Funding”.
- Select program year (e.g., 2026–27) and click “Start Application”.
- Review the documents needed before starting the application.
- If you have already started an application previously, a draft of an application will be saved; a warning message will show up if you try to start a new application.
Program Information
- Select your institution: University of the Fraser Valley
- Program Selection:
- Capacity: Part-Time
- Select your program from the drop-down list.
Study Dates
Dates are listed by year of program, course load, and semester dates:
- 3-5 credits: select the semester dates for your program year and 20% course load
- 6-8 credits: select the semester dates for your program year and 40% course load
Note: Your year is based on total completed credits (not years of study):
- Year 1: 0–30 credits
- Year 2: 31–60 credits
- Year 3: 61–90 credits
- Year 4: 91+ credits
Summer: Summer-condensed courses are eligible for part-time funding. Please select the correct offering:
- Early: May - June
- Full: May - August
- Late: July - August
Course Information
List your course(s) and term dates:
- Course Name: e.g., ENG 105
- Course Code: CRN (5-digit registration code)
- Start and End Date: Semester dates (based on selected study dates)
Reminder: Part-time studies = 3 to 8 post-secondary credits (100-level or higher).
- 9 or more credits = Full-time application required
- Upgrading courses do not qualify
Student Number
- Input your UFV student number.
Personal Information
- This information is pulled from your BC Services Card—confirm it is correct and complete all required sections.
- Answer the following questions:
- Residency of BC: Provide proof if requested.
- Indigenous Status: If applicable.
- Child/Youth in Care: If you are a student who was ever considered a child or youth under government care and you would like to learn more about additional supports you could be eligible for, please contact financial.aid@ufv.ca to speak with a Financial Aid Advisor who oversees youth from-care supports.
- Disability Status: If you are a student with a disability, you must have your status approved through StudentAid BC by completing an Appendix 8. If your disability status has not yet been approved, there may be a delay in release of funds while this status is being established.
Family Information
- Provide accurate family details.
- Indicate any dependents with disabilities and attach relevant medical documentation if applicable.
Financial Information
- Enter your reported total income from line 15000 of last year’s income tax return. This income will be matched with your CRA records. Note: If you did not file an income tax return, enter your total income from all sources; both inside and outside of Canada.
Financial Circumstances / Additional Transportation Costs
- These are considered appeal options.
- Read carefully before selecting.
- If applicable, follow instructions within the application.
- Otherwise, select “No” to continue.
Note: Selecting appeal options may delay your assessment.
Confirmation of Application Submission
- Read and check off the consent box.
- Submit your application.
Checking Application Status
- Click on the ‘Application’ tab (top-right) to confirm your application status shows as an ‘Assessment’. This assessment will:
- Show the amount you are eligible to receive.
- Provide a breakdown of funding.
- Indicate when funds will be released.
- Include a 10-digit Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement (MSFAA) number.
- You will also see an assessment date. Wait at least one day after this date before proceeding with NSLSC steps below.
Email
- You will receive a Welcome Email from the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC), which manages payments for StudentAid BC.
- If you didn’t receive your Welcome Email, please check your junk folder. You don’t need to wait for the email to proceed.
Register with NSLSC
You can register directly on the NSLSC website: https://www.csnpe-nslsc.canada.ca/en/home
- Click “Register”.
- Select the Provincial Sign-In option.
- Log in using your BC Services Card app.
Complete Your MSFAA
Follow the steps in the NSLSC portal to complete your Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement (MSFAA). You will need:
- Your banking information (for direct deposit)
- Your SIN
- Your 10-digit MSFAA number (from your Notice of Assessment)
- Your date of birth
Accept Assessment
Once you have completed your MSFAA:
- Wait approximately 24 hours for your information to be processed.
- Log back into your StudentAid BC account.
- Click ‘View Assessment’ on the summary page.
- Then click ‘View Assessment’ again on the next page to see your notice of assessment.
- If satisfied, select ‘Accept Assessment’ at the top-right to confirm your funding. *Confirmation of enrolment cannot go through until this step has been completed*
What Happens Next
After you accept your assessment:
- StudentAid BC will send a confirmation of enrolment request to UFV.
- Once enrolment is confirmed, your funding will be released.
Important Tips:
- The part-time studies grant is income-based with maximum grant funding available per academic year.
- A valid BC Services Card and app are required to apply.
- Ensure all required documents are uploaded and keep copies for your records.
- Check your account regularly for updates or requests.
