MS Teams Add-In for Outlook - Windows 10

Overview

This process summarizes the steps for adding MS teams Add-In for Outlook. Once completed, you will see a button called Teams Meeting in the Outlook ribbon.  Clicking on the button will add a Join Microsoft Teams Meeting link to your meeting invite.

Areas of Responsibilities

A Service Desk Analyst will take proper action when employee calls in for setting up MS teams add-in in outlook ribbon.

  •  Following this procedure to troubleshoot and assist the employee with setting up MS team Add-in.

 

STEP 1: VERIFY IF OUTLOOK ADD-INS OPTION LETS YOU ADD MS TEAMS

BEFORE PROCEEDING:   MS Teams and Outlook are required on employee's computer.

  • Select File in the Outlook menu bar.
  • Select Options under File.
  • Select Add-Ins under Options.
  • Select in Manage: COM Add-ins at the bottom of the window, click Go...

  • Check Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.  Click on OK.

  • IF Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office is MISSING, proceed to the next steps
    • Backout to the Add-in screen and select Manage: Disable Items, click Go...

  • If Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office is displayed, select and Enable.  Close Disabed Items window.  Proceed to add Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in by selecting the checkbox and click on OK.

 

STEP 2: VERIFY IF REGEDIT HAS TEAMS ADD-INS TO VALUE 3 OR ENABLE

  • Open the Registry Editor

  • Navigate to the following path on the Teams Addin.FastConnect folder.
    • Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\TeamsAddin.FastConnect
  • Locate LoadBehaviour and right-click to modify.
  • Set LoadBehaviour Value data: to 3.  Click on OK to save changes.

  • Restart computer and perform Step 1 again.
  • Proceed to Step 3 if this does not resolve the problem.

 

STEP 3: CHECK MS TEAMS ADDIN FOLDER & ENSURE DLL FILE EXISTS IN USERS APPDATA

  • In the File Explorer, navigate to:
    • Ensure the path is modified with the UserName and Version according ot User's computer.
    • C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\TeamsMeetingAddin\Version\x86\Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll
    • Verify for the following dll:  Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll 
    • If the File Explorer can't find the dll file and gives an error,  navigate to the dll manually.  
    • If the dll is not there, MS Teams was not properly installed.

 

STEP 4: RE-INSTALL MS TEAMS WITHOUT UNINSTALLING THE APPLICATION

  • Navigate to the Task Bar and look for the MS Teams icon.  Right-click on the MS Teams icon and Quit.

  • The control panel may or may not list MS teams as it wasn’t properly installed in first place. It was observed an issue where the MS teams was working but it wasn’t listed in the control panel.
  • Without UNINSTALLING MS teams please DOWNLOAD MS Teams and try to RE-INSTALL:
  • Validate if the dll file now on the computer in Step 3.

 

STEP 5: ADD THE DLL FILE TO THE REGISTRY 

  • From Windows Search, search for the Command Prompt and Run as administrator.

  • Navigate using cd to:
    • C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\TeamsMeetingAddin\Version\x86\Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll

  • Type the command   regsvr32 Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll     if this is successful, you will get the following message:

  • To verify this was successful, open Outlook and go to Calendar.  The New Teams Meeting icon should be visible in the Outlook calendar ribbon.
