Transfer Browser Saved Passwords

Move your web browser passwords to a different device.

When transitioning to a new computer, transferring your saved website passwords can save time and hassle.

This article outlines how to export and import passwords in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox using UFV’s current setup.

Note: Exported passwords are saved in an unencrypted CSV file. Delete the CSV after importing them to another device to protect your data.

1. Open up Google Chrome.

2. Click the More button in the top right corner of the window.

3. Hover your mouse over Passwords and autofill.

4. And then choose, Google Password Manager.

5. In the Password Manager, click on Settings from the left side menu.

6. To export your saved passwords, click Download file beside Export passwords.

7. When prompted, enter your Windows password to continue.

8. Choose a location to save your passwords CSV file.

9. To import passwords to Chrome, click Select file beside Import passwords and choose your saved CSV file.

10. Delete your CSV file after importing to keep your information secure.

1. Open Mozilla Firefox.

2. Click the Application Menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner.

3. Click Passwords from the menu.

4. In the Passwords window, click the More Options button (three dots) in the top right corner.

5. To export your passwords, click Export Passwords…

6. When a warning message appears, click Continue with export.

7. Choose a location to save the passwords CSV file.

8. To import passwords into Firefox, return to the More Options menu and click Import from a File…

9. Select your saved CSV file to import your passwords.

10. Delete your CSV file after importing to keep your information secure.
